Description Job Summary Inspect and repair rail cars.
Primary Activities and Responsibilities · Must complete 732 day apprenticeship program per agreement in lieu of a Carman's card · Propane and oxygen torch operation and knowledgeable in stick electrode and flux cored welding processes · Rail car repair, including trucks, underframe, body, doors, air brake, blasting and painting, and recordkeeping
Pay Rate $20.33 per hour $22.81 per hour after 732 day apprenticeship period
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications · High School diploma/GED · 18 years of age or older · Valid Driver's License · Mechanical repair knowledge and skills · Basic computer skills · Blue print/schematic reading
Preferred Qualifications · Carman apprenticeship · Mechanical experience repairing equipment · Welding experience
Basic Competencies · Verbal comprehension (understand oral and written communications--both general and technical) · Communication skills (provide clear instructions/directions) · Reasoning skills (problem solving and trouble shooting skills)
Physical Requirements · Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/crawl/balance/climb · Walk long distances over uneven terrain · Climbing on and off equipment · Moderately heavy to heavy industrial work
Employment Conditions · Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries · The candidate selected for this position must successfully complete a drug test, passing results must be received prior to start date in new position · Wear protective equipment such as hard hat, hearing protection, safety-toe boots, or safety glasses · Monday through Friday 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. with a 30 minute non-paid meal period with limited opportunity for overtime · Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, and various shift work · Complete annual training · This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement, membership is required
