Senior Database Systems Programmer-030602

Description
Job Summary:
Manages and maintains all aspects of the mainframe database infrastructure. Ensures the performance of the system, tools, and utilities meet and exceed all availability and Service Level Agreements (SLA).

Primary Activities and Responsibilities:
· Install, validate, test, and maintain tools and utilities from various vendors. Test size and estimate storage requirements and communicate installs across impacted teams.
· Provide support for 3rd party products and the IMS and DB2 Database Management Software (DBMS) software running on the Mainframe.
· Collaborate with teams across the organization to determine most efficient and cost effective solutions to fit modernization strategy. Collaborate with peers on technical information for all aspects of 3rd party tools and core Database Management System (DBMS) technologies.
· Interact with vendors to open and resolve issues and help drive product enhancements.
· Support database administrators to ensure tools function properly, deliver solutions to applications developers, and work closely with vendors to implement and maintain technology solutions.
· Analyze cross platforms processing to determine root causes and make suggestions for methods to eliminate problems and improve service reliability.
· Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
· Bachelors degree required in Information Systems/Technology, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering
· More than 5 years of experience required in Mainframe database systems

Equivalent Minimum Qualifications:
· High School diploma/GED required
· More than 10 years of experience required in Mainframe database systems

Preferred Qualifications
In addition to meeting the above qualifications, the following are preferred:
· Bachelors degree in Information Systems/Technology, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering with more than 10 years of experience in Mainframe database systems
· Experience working with vendors on support and rollout of technical solutions (opening problem tickets, collaborating on fixes, etc.)

Knowledge and Skills:
· Knowledge of the installation and maintenance of IMS and DB2 including the use of System Modification Program/Extended (SMP/E)
· Knowledge of the installation process for BMC tools and utilities for DB2 and IMS
· Knowledge of the installation process for CA tools for DB2 and IMS
· Knowledge of the installation process for Transparent Gateway for Mainframe based DB2 (TG4DB2) and Access Manager for CICS (AM4CICS)
· Knowledge of the installation process for IBM Tools
· DB2 and IMS infrastructure support skills
· Written and oral communication skills
· Process management skills
· Ability to write programs using languages such as COmmon Business Oriented Language (COBOL), REstructured eXtended eXecution (REXX) language, Job Control Language (JCL), and Command List (CLIST)
· Ability to communicate technical information in all aspects of 3rd party tools and the core DBMS technologies
· Knowledge of Unix System Services
· Microsoft Office skills

Job Requirements:
· Work hours may vary in length and schedule. Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek.
· Work hours may include on call 7 days a week, 24 hours per day and rotating on-call responsibilities (including weekends and holidays).
· 5% travel required.
· May be required to travel to Business Continuity site in support of real or test disaster recovery exercises.
· The applicant selected for this position must successfully complete a background check and drug test. Passing results must be received prior to start date in new position.
